5K@IDF History


The 5K@IDF is an official activity of the IDF Congress that connects local citizens and IDF Congress delegates to jointly raise diabetes awareness. Since its inception at the IDF World Diabetes Congress 2006 in Cape Town, over 3,600 participants have run and walked to emphasize the need for increased physical activity and to help prevent diabetes and diabetes complications. Through Novo Nordisk’s support, participation in the 5K@IDF is free for all.

Held in partnership with the Emirates Diabetes Society, the 2017 5K@IDF edition was a signature activity at ADNEC, featuring 665 finishers. Over €7,800 were raised for World Diabetes Foundation Rwanda Project through 5K@IDF runner shirt purchases.

In partnership with:

Held in partnership with the Canadian Diabetes Association, the 2015 5K@IDF edition was a signature activity along the Vancouver Seawall. Featuring nearly 740 finishers, the Vancouver edition was the second largest in 5K@IDF history.

In partnership with:

Held in partnership with the Emirates Diabetes Association, the 2011 5K@IDF edition was the first running or walking event held in Duabi’s famous Zabeel Park. The Dubai edition was the largest in 5K@IDF history with over 950 finishers.

Held in partnership with the Canadian Diabetes Association, the 2009 5K@IDF edition was held in the Old Port of Montréal along the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Over 600 finishers braved the elements to raise diabetes awareness.

Held in partnership with the Diabetes South Africa Western Cape Branch, the 2006 5K@IDF edition was held in Green Point near the signature Lighthouse. Over 700 finishers joined together for the first 5K@IDF.
